An Immense Privilege
What an immense privilege it is to be a Dad! There is no better job in the world, and I’m not sure whether I am very good at it, but, I love being a Dad.
At the centre of my life are five beautiful people, Meagan, Rebecca, Luke, Emma and James – my children. I cannot imagine one day without them or a day that passes when my thoughts do not go to them. My heart aches sometimes because of things that happen and at other times it swells with the most enormous pride and love. To hold them is to be fulfilled.
I am blessed!
They have brought added blessing to me by bringing me the inestimable joy of grand children. I have to qualify my statement from the opening – the best job I have ever had is to be a Pa!!! What richness they show me in love; what depth of wonderful they display as the learn and grow; what essential goodness is in them. Corey, Ella Charlie and Eli lift my heart; they can talk to me for thirty seconds and sweep the debris of life away.
I am blessed indeed!
Being a Dad and a Pa means that I am also a husband; a husband with a beautiful wife who graces my life with her love. Julie is my best friend – well, she’s more than that. She knows all about me, yet she still loves me! I am in awe of her commitment to me; she has taught me what it means to stand by someone and and to not waiver. She loves in a way that one would want to be loved, with depth of passion and selflessness. She delights me!
I am blessed; blessed by God with a bounty of love.
The whole package of family and marriage is made complete in Him. Without my relationship with Christ my relationship with my family would not be as fulfilled as it is. Despite angst and worry that comes with being in a family, He has shown me the wonder that resides here.
It is an immense blessing to be in this family and to be Pa, Dad and husband. I pray I can be a blessing to them.
